Privacy Policy for the Photo Compressor Chrome extension and website
This policy explains what happens to your data when you use the Photo Compressor Chrome extension for compressing photos and pictures, and what happens when you browse this website. The two are deliberately described separately, because they behave differently.
Install from the Chrome Web Store
The extension processes your images locally
Photo Compressor compresses images entirely inside your browser. Your files are read, resized and re-encoded on your own computer using the browser’s built-in image APIs. Nothing you drag into the extension, choose through the file picker or compress with the right-click menu is uploaded to our servers or to any third party. We never see your images, and there is no server-side copy to leak, retain or hand over.
The extension does not collect personal data
The extension does not ask for an account, an email address or a payment method. It does not collect names, contact details, location, browsing history, health, financial or authentication information. It does not track which sites you visit, and it does not build a profile of you. No analytics, advertising or telemetry code runs inside the extension.
Your compression settings, such as the target size in kilobytes, the output format, the file naming pattern and the dark theme preference, are saved in your browser’s local extension storage so the tool remembers them next time. That data stays on your device and is deleted when you remove the extension.
Permissions
The extension requests only the permissions it needs to do its job: access to the image you explicitly choose or right-click, the ability to save the compressed result to your downloads, and local storage for your settings. Permissions are used for compression only and never to read page content for other purposes.
Chrome Web Store data policy
Photo Compressor is distributed through the Chrome Web Store and complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We do not sell or transfer user data, we do not use it for advertising or creditworthiness, and we do not use it for any purpose other than providing the compression feature you asked for. Google may collect its own aggregate installation and rating statistics for the listing; that data is handled under Google’s own privacy policy, not ours.
This website does use analytics
The website you are reading now is separate from the extension, and it is not analytics-free. We use Google Analytics 4 and Yandex Metrica on photocompressor.pictures to understand how many people visit, which pages they read and which search queries bring them here. These services set cookies and receive standard technical information such as a truncated IP address, browser and device type, referring page, screen size and the pages you open.
Yandex Metrica may also record anonymised session behaviour such as clicks and scrolling. We use this only in aggregate, to decide what to write and what to fix on the site. We do not use it to identify individual visitors, and we do not combine it with anything from the extension, because the extension sends us nothing at all.
You can opt out with the Google Analytics browser opt-out add-on, with Yandex’s own opt-out, by blocking these scripts with a content blocker, or by disabling cookies for this domain. None of that affects how the extension works, since the extension does not depend on the website.
Cookies
This site sets cookies only for the analytics services described above and for basic technical operation. There is no advertising network, no retargeting pixel and no cross-site tracking on this domain.
Data we receive when you write to us
If you email info@photocompressor.pictures or leave a review on the Chrome Web Store, we receive whatever you choose to include: your address, your message and any screenshot you attach. We use it only to answer you and to fix the problem you described, and we do not add it to a marketing list.
Children
The extension and the site are general-purpose tools and are not directed at children under 13. Because we collect no personal data in the extension, we do not knowingly hold any information about children.
Changes to this policy
If the extension or the site ever starts handling data differently, we will update this page and change the date below before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the extension or the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
Contact
Questions about privacy, or requests about data you have sent us, go to info@photocompressor.pictures. You can also raise them publicly on the Chrome Web Store listing.
